Broken Promises in NATOs Rotten State of Democracy!
“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” – Søren Kierkegaard
Shakespeare’s Hamlet is playing out its tragedy in the West. Unleashed decayed democracy is emitting a foul odor of rotten politics. Indeed, “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark” or what Kierkegaard referred to as “the most dangerous of all powers and the most meaningless.”
Elections, Retreats, Sweden, Green Bullshit and the “Common Heritage of All Mankind” arise again in NATOs Rotten State of Democracy! Denmark, no surprise one of your very own, Kierkegaard, viewed Democracy as “the most tyrannical form of government.”
Jens, who ya fooling? 100 Billion Euro! Sounds like a late April Fool’s joke. NATO, really, ‘to make it more powerful, predictable and enduring’ OR another broken promise. And you foreign ministers are running nations!
Expect Ukraine to fight five more years or fund to Rebuild? Or vexed that Donny boy could soon take charge? Jens, not surprised Hungary and Turkey are holding back in electing Dutch boy! 🙂
Jens, hear you’re finally leaving NATO. You promise? Auf Wiedersehen!
Election discourse abounds amid Russia-Ukraine War in Media, or what Kierkegaard viewed as “the most wretched, the most contemptible of all tyrannies.”
Sylvie Kauffmann from Le Monde says on the coming European June election, ‘this is an election in the time of war.’ But she made sure to point out the “other election. The one we don’t get to vote…on November 5.”
Election interference? No worries, hear Microsoft now has a ‘supercomputer.’ We’ll see how powerful it is this coming election. I see you haven’t forgotten my words of November 2020:
Microsoft, has your “ElectionGuard” guarded well the election? How’s it worked for the Republicans, a party that has enforced deregulation as opposed to Democrats who promised to regulate? I imagine anti-trust took a backseat.
US and “The Retreat of the State”
Nations of Finland and Sweden were not in imminent danger as Ukraine. US, by playing on the sidelines with just enough weapons prolonging the conflict, you provided a distraction to your own rotten crises.
Your leader absurdly pontificates its miniscule and tardy aid to Ukraine and Gaza sidelining its own decades of DEREGULATION of its BORDERS, TRAINS, PLANES and PORTS.
Baltimore bridge collapse was inevitable. “Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association warned of the dangers of bigger cargo vessels and smaller crews not at par with US levels.” And you’re fighting Houthis in the Red Sea over cargo vessels? Nope, ‘you just can’t win for losing.’
No surprise, in your own backyard it’s a question of greedy companies. Roland Rexha, secretary treasurer, notes, “these companies, what they do is they’re looking to make as much profit as they can, and they put their workforce in a position to fail on a daily basis.”
Sweden, you may be familiar with these companies. “Maersk, which chartered the ship…In 2023, Occupational Safety and Health Administration ordered the Danish shipping conglomerate to revise its company policy and cease prohibiting employees from contacting regulators with concerns, after the company was found to retaliate against a worker.”
Danes, looks like six construction workers’ blood is on yours and US hands.
The Guardian’s report comes two years after another excellent paper in Prospect.org by Alexander Sammon, “We Were Warned About the Ports”.
In it we find Sal Mercogliano, an associate professor and maritime historian at Campbell University reveal, “What they’re doing is a shell game. They say they’re 150 miles off; they’re not. They’re 500 miles, burning more fuel than they would.”
Scientists and Academics revelations confirm port workers’ concerns in 2014 of supply chain issues. Pandemic made it worse, of course. But these problems existed long before.
US, who will lead your complicated dirty democracy? You clash on securing borders, crises of your own making. Your surveillance watchdogs are besieged with cell after cell.
All the while your two party system as social, trade, monetary and transportation infrastructures crumble from within. It is only a matter of time before you’re forced to retreat.
Biden and Trump, take heed:
“No political campaign manager would advise a candidate to fight an election solely on issues of security and order, excluding all the other issues of possible interest to the voters – of trade policy and monetary policies as they may affect economic growth and employment, or of social policies as they may affect people’s housing, health, education and welfare chances.” – “The Retreat of the State: The Diffusion of Power in the World Economy” by Susan Strange
Sweden, now part of NATO, we find in your backyard an international collaborative fighting force proclaiming, “Green industry wants to take our land’: the Arctic paradox”:
“Defending the land rights of the Sami – semi-nomadic reindeer herders who are the EU’s only remaining Indigenous people – is fast becoming one of the big campaigning issues for activists across Europe, bringing together climate protesters in the Nordic states with veterans of ongoing German coal protests and the Mediterranean refugee crisis.”
People of Sweden are fighting the good fight while their government makes bad choices. How will it end? Sweden, what say your people?
“They all agree that “green industry” is a contradiction in terms. “They want us to believe that the same industry that put us into the environmental crisis is going to get us out of it,” says the Greenpeace activist Dima Litvinov.
NATO, Approve Sweden the Other ‘Red House’?
NATO, approve Sweden the Other ‘Red House’ but pass up Ukraine? Kingdom of Sweden did not lift a finger to help Allies during WWII afraid German forces would enter its ‘Kingdom’ but it is now happy to be ‘manhandled’ by the US.
Back in the day, Norwegian Troika had Germany’s back. Yes, the Baltic ‘Timid Triplets,’ Norway-Sweden-Finland share a congenital ugly past. To wit, Defense Robert Gates is not alone in questioning your lack of contribution and imminent dissolvement. Need I remind you of the former and now 2024 candidate, US President Donald Trump.
Sweden, US Secretary of State praises you with, “Good things come to those who wait.”
But not to those who wait TOO LATE! Think back to NATOs fiasco in Afghanistan. Blinken forgot to tell you of the bad things, so ‘Be careful what you wish for.’ In fact, one of your own sees risk at play. The Guardian reports:
“Kerstin Bergeå, the president of the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Association (SPAS), an anti-war campaign group, said Sweden’s Nato membership was a “risky misprioritisation that will lead to increased tension, polarisation and militarisation at a time where we need the exact opposite.”
Indeed, Sweden shall too follow in US painful footsteps as many others. Social spending will be redirected to Defense Industrial Base. Yes, peace is the anathema of profitable war machines. How else could they be funded?
Peacemakers take real shares of profit but bring false hopes of peace. Norwegian refugee groups, tell us you don’t take a piece of the action before you throw money at the problem? Problem is, funds rarely seem to make it to those in need. Look at Haiti, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Gaza…
Bergeå may agree, “A Nato membership has uncritically been presented as a boon for Sweden’s security but increased armament, joining a nuclear alliance, and allying ourselves with undemocratic countries is not what leads to sustainable peace and security.”
Speaking of ‘nuclear alliances’ have you seen my new screenplay, “And the Oskar Goes to German ‘Death Ray.”
Politics of Green Bullshit
“Sweden’s use of environmental alarmism to secretly aid Soviet Russia, and Germany’s alternative energy obsession that descended directly from the National Socialist regime.” – Rupert Darwall
House of Sweden is owned and managed by the Kingdom of Sweden. Putting aside NATO, socialism and climate change, how are your ‘crown’ jewels? Bloomberg reported in January, “The Swedish pension group Alecta…trying to restore its reputation after a series of ill-judged investments…” Crown not as popular as carbon credit?
Sweden, looks like you’re not the only ones to have a bad moment. Appears Blackrock is having a ‘bud moment.’ 🙂 No surprise red states don’t like ‘green politics.’ Bloomberg Law reports that the “Texas State Board of Education decided to “divest $8.5 billion” on account of fossil fuels.
Yep, ‘when it rains it pours.’ One month later, Reuters notes “Heimstaden, a real estate group with swathes of homes from Stockholm to Berlin…said it had written down the value of its investment properties by 31 billion crowns.”
And you’re the next NATO member? By God, you can’t even keep your house in order! I am reminded of those red wooden cottages in Western Varmland. Recall my December 31, 2021 paper, “Sweden’s Red House: The Beginnings of Green and Bullshit?”
The bullshit of red political correctness has too found its way amongst green pastures. So where did this idea of “green” start? “The politics of global warming actually began in Sweden. Not China as most people supposed,” according to Rupert Darwall.
In his 2017 book Green Tyranny, Exposing the Totalitarian Roots of the Climate Industrial Complex, Darwall poses a good question: “Given that Sweden started the global warming scare to get nuclear power, how did we end up with wind and solar?”
Although I do not agree with all of Darwall’s views, Darwall’s explanation for the start of ‘global warming’ is convincing, “to get governments to change policy, they had to reverse engineer the catastrophe.”
GREEN & OIL: “Common Heritage of All Mankind”
Green fight for a fossil-free economy attempts are in vain. BigOil continues to explore. Heard of Exxon and Guyana? Ask Venezuela.
Lockheed, mmm, ROI getting bigger! Ecstatic to see me or the Sea!? Lock, feeding war machine with sea mining? Hear you’re helping the Brits with some deep sea mining projects. Needed a sponsor right?
You’re not alone. Says Politico “China has sponsored five contracts, and Russia, South Korea, India, Germany, France and Japan are also involved.” Yep, they’re International Seabed Authority (ISA) members! Hmm, China not only mapping space but ‘SEAL’ Team taken command of mapping bottom of the Sea.
One can almost hear the countries’ leaders, CEOs, and shareholders sing the lyrics by Al Dubin and music by Harry Warren: “We’re in the money! We’re in the money!
Unlike US, NATO members are also joining ISA. Seems the US cannot abide by the ‘Law of the Sea.’ I imagine tech as car companies find the ends don’t justify the means.
Even the AI craze hasn’t made them budge. Why? Pretty pricey and difficult to get those minerals way down below. Seems cheaper and easier to get contractor and have citizens dig in Africa and South America.
Yet, I question why the Heritage Foundation is said to be averse to deep-sea mining. Strange their refusal to join ISA, other than its apparent affiliates with ‘green.’
Perhaps it’s ISA’s raison d’etre.’ Founded by the EU, its directed mission is ‘Common Heritage of All Mankind.” Peace and Equity is their said purpose, economically benefiting both developed and developing nations. Sure 🙂
But call it what you will, “Industry is industry, whether it is green or not, it’s the same,” says Henrik Andersson. In an excellent report by The Guardian, we find out about the ‘Arctic Paradox.’
Sweden joining NATO, to be stronger in defending its land appears to overlook both fossil and ‘green’ costs of doing business. “The ordinary industry took some land, but the green industry wants to take even more.”
My green friends, whether you dig land or deep sea mine, something’s gotta give. You can try blocking or hiding the sources. Yet, as Politico reports, “But mining companies smell opportunity — and profits.”
Why not nuclear? Ask Ukraine if they wish to go down that road again.
Want to Hear God Laugh & Cry? End Mankind’s Nation State!
Outcome of war with Russia – Victory v Defeat? Visit “Russia, Lord of “Der Ring des Nibelungen” in New ‘Twilight of the Gods’”and find out. Kremlin, recall my words: WHY you do WHAT you do…Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen?
Says Kauffmann of Le Monde, ‘definition…has been evolving a lot.” Now, it’s ‘about OUR, the security of the rest of Europe’.
Come, come, Sylvie, say what you really mean, OUR SECURITY. Spoken like a true Frenchie! 🙂
In these you call ‘modern times,’ Energy is mastered by those shoulder to shoulder with strength of Military and Economy. It is the use of their fourth weapon, soft power of Diplomacy sinisterly veiling their true intent: Ravish your land and resources.
Recall Diplomat Benjamin Franklin’s words, “Diplomacy should never be a Siege but a Seduction.” But the West forgets that after French wench was seduced by the Americans, it wasn’t long before rest of Europe sieged her! 🙂
Some have posited: Had Ukraine remained neutral, not in favor of NATO expansion, Russia would not be at her doorstep. Others see it differently. Ivan Krastev argues that for Putin, ‘the problem with Belarus and the problem with Ukraine is not simply a security problem, a territorial problem, it’s an identity issue.’
Yet, Krastev agrees, ‘I do believe we can have a very legitimate criticism of the need to enlargement.’ Krastev points out that at the end of Cold War:
“Ukrainian perspective, a society, a nation that was promised in 1994 by the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, that if they were to give their nuclear weapons (and they had been the third biggest nuclear power in the world) their security is guaranteed. So it’s very difficult to get them to believe that this type of level of neutrality is going to work because they were betrayed once.”
Adding ‘insult to injury,’ Ukraine, which has the will to fight, gets passed over by Finland and Sweden, Baltic countries claiming neutrality in past world wars. End of Cold War and broken promises lays bare the travesty of a nation deceived.
Baltic ‘Timid Triplets’ mark of neutrality left a stain of conceding defeat and fighting the Allies alongside Germany. Will the future see an end to the community of NATO’s nation states?
Kenichi Ohmae’s Theory in The End of the Nation State is in line with Benedict Anderson’s Imagined Communities positing that “the nation state is increasingly a nostalgic fiction.” It may have served a purpose for some countries at a certain time but like the Cold War that mentality is incongruent with today’s world.
We can ignore our worldly scholars and philosophers at our peril or wittingly listen.
“If I were to imagine this public as a person … I most likely would think of one of the Roman emperors, an imposing, well-fed figure suffering from boredom and therefore craving only the sensate titillation of laughter, for the divine gift of wit is not worldly enough.” – Søren Kierkegaard
