In a “Second Life”: Amazon-Whole Foods Got Real Food or JEDI?
Whole Foods customers report finding in store shelves bread product (hot dog buns) with a label name “365” that reads, “This product may contain a chemical known to cause Cancer.”
If products with chemicals are in the First Life, can we find artificial “real food” in Second Life?
Merger with an e-commerce company, Amazon, seems ideal to cater to customer’s demand for convenience. The business of medicine termed “Consumer Health Business” or as Pfizer describes “An over-the-counter medicines business” too provides convenience.
No need for doctor prescriptions when shopping for food. Just pull off the shelf or add to cart online.
Business of Food and Chemicals
Tom Mackey, Whole Foods Market CEO, pointed out how business schools’ faculty have no real business acumen while real doctors teach in med schools and lawyers at law schools. Having worked at a business school he is correct, in part.
Increasingly, many in the business sector transition to teaching. Sure, some professors may not have owned a business but businesses seek academic’s knowledge and research becoming highly sought paid consultants. Also, business schools create and develop public-private strategic alliances. Consider the sciences technology transfers.
Also, Mackey appears unaware of the growing trend of lawyers and doctors seeking MBAs offered by business schools. Sure, some professors teach what they can’t do. BUT, a large number of those running a medical or law practice have decided to make a business of what they do, not practicing ethically what they preach at the expense of their clients or patients.
Of course there are CEOs who do not practice what they preach and who professionally and personally capitalize on mergers and acquisitions at the expense of employees and customers.
Mr. Mackey, that’s not capitalism. Let’s not confuse greedy profits made at the expense of employees earning wages below the cost of living. That’s forced socialism run by corporate dictators without profits returning to the State and People. That’s NOT INNOVATION. That’s STAGNATION and SLAVERY.
AWM New Release! Monopolizing “PRIMECRIME”
Amazon warehouses appear closed to the public. But Whole Foods deli is wide open. Steak meat packaging label reads “May contain allergens due to shared production areas.”
Some say it’s a crime to waste food. But what of food that is spoiled with cleaning agents? A butcher shared that “Each table has its own specie.” Tables are sanitized with industry cleaner. In this Pandemic Age, the public is left with facing the “lesser of two evils” bacteria or toxins when buying prime cut meat.
Mr. Mackey, it appears your claims of professors lacking “real world” expertise in business and profits can be found at Corporations where CEOs do business no matter the human cost. Noting the criticism of business teachers and “those who can’t do, teach” what about those who can’t do either?
One wonders if Mr. Bezos ever read let alone wrote a book on food safety or work at a market. Some in the Actors Guild may say, “He couldn’t act to save his life.” Then again one could always buy a “Magnificent Studio” and pretend to be an Actor, Astronaut or Cowboy.
I imagine, however, that real cowboys, astronauts and actors are inviting Elon Musk to NASA, film studios, or their ranch homes. Or, buying his electrical vehicles and riding in the Space X Falcon 9 rocket and boarding the International Space Station, PAST sub orbital space. Nope, no dummy passengers here or CEOs pretending to be astronauts.
Do Amazon shareholders fully embrace the Founder’s principles? Shareholders and casino gamblers alike will tell you risks and gambling go hand in hand. However, it takes more than money and luck to walk through Wall Street and make it to the other side still a winner after antitrust charges. Just ask Microsoft.
Amazon Shareholders consider Thomas Hobbes words,
“It is true, there be few Merchants, that with the Merchandise they buy at home, can fraight a Ship, to export it; or with that they buy abroad, to bring it home… So that to grant to a Company of Merchants to be a Corporation, or Body Politique, is to grant them a double Monopoly, whereof one is to be sole buyers; another to be sole sellers… Of this double Monopoly one part is disadvantageous to the people…at home, the other to forraigners…”
Counsel for the Pentagon, Hobbes knowledge of politics, business and law reminds us that “Such Corporations therefore are no other then Monopolies; though they would be very profitable for a Common-wealth, if being bound up into one body in forraigne Markets they were at liberty at home, every man to buy, and sell at what price he could.
If a Mulct be layd upon the Body for some unlawfull act, they only are lyable by whose votes the act was decreed, or by whose assistance it was executed; for in none of the rest is there any other crime but being of the Body; which if a crime, (because the Body was ordeyned by the authority of the Common-wealth,) is not his.”
– LEVIATHAN, By Thomas Hobbes of Malmesbury. Paris APRILL 15/25 1651.
Deal or No Deal? Pentagon, seriously consider who returns to the table with the JEDI. The retail book salesman or the computer programmer. Then again, like Newton, an Apple may fall on your head and a light switch will turn on pointing to another key player.
Remember that there are those who pretend to be at war in the stars. One can find them in online market places buying in a “second life” what they cannot be in the first.
Grand Papi would say, “Yep, there’s a city slicker strutting around in boots and hat looking up at the stars pretending to be a cowboy.”
